Direct Phonics Instruction

Direct Phonics Instruction by Anita Archer

Explicit Phonics Instruction

The videos are GREAT!  May be a great way to do a TDAP observation with your team.  Discuss how you can implement direct phonics instruction in your classroom.

You can view the videos from this website or they are also on our shared drive (see below).

I have moved 2 videos on direct phonics instruction to the Staff Shared-Public folder in our school drive.  There is a folder called "phonics routine videos".  It is an excellent resource on teaching phonics.  You will need your own lists of words but the process is excellent.

Timothy Rasinski on Fluency Recommended for Teachers of Grades K-5 Nationally-renowned fluency expert Timothy Rasinski discusses ways to help young children develop their reading fluency, word recognition, and overall comprehension. Rasinski will present a research-proven early intervention program where parents and children engage in repeated, guided reading, and then do a quick skill-building activity to help build a foundation for reading success

Orton Gillingham has a good list of educational apps.  They break them into lower & upper elementary, ELL, middle school, high school and educators.

Collins Cobuild Dictionary Online

Here is the link to the Collins Cobuild Online Dictionary.  (The dictionary cited in the vocabulary section was the Collins Cobuild Student Dictionary, 2005)  If you make sure you are on the "English for Learners" tab the definitions seem quite student friendly.

Fluency Growth

Here is a good article on fluency growth.  It has average weekly growth for students.
Remember the Mounds View uses it own data for fluency targets.

Great article!

Here is a great article from the latest American Educator (Summer 2014).  "The Magic of Words" is all about teaching vocabulary to young children.  I also added it to the class Live Binder.
